Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Elevation: 7,742ft to 8,694ft | Distance: 6 km | Hiking Time: 3-4 hours | Habitat: Rain Forest

Pick up from your hotel and transfer to Londorossi Gate. We drive through a variety of countryside with open vistas of the plains to the Lemosho road head where the appropriate park registration procedures are completed at the Londorossi National Park gate. Lemosho Mti Mkubwa Camp is our base camp as we begin our ascent through the forest trail.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira Camp

Elevation: 8,694ft to 11,647ft | Distance: 8 km | Hiking Time: 6-7 hours | Habitat: Moorland

The Shira Plateau, a breath-taking expanse on the majestic slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, offers hikers a unique experience. With an elevation of nearly 4,000 meters, it presents a challenging yet rewarding hike, culminating in the serene Shira One Camp. The plateau itself is a World Heritage Site, showcasing ancient calderas and weathered lava flows that tell a story of the mountain's volcanic past.

Day 3: Shira Camp to Shira Two Camp

Elevation: 11,647ft to 12,631ft | Distance: 7 km | Hiking Time: 5-6 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert

Today's trek includes a gradual ascent and sweeping vistas. We will be walking towards Shira Cathedral where we will have a nice view of Shira plateau if it is clear. We will continue with our trekking to Shira two camp. We will have our lunch at the camp and we will explore the stunning view of Kibo Peak. The rest of the day will be spent preparing for the next day.

Day 4: Shira Two to Barranco Valley

Elevation: 12,631ft to 12,795ft | Distance: 10 km | Hiking Time: 7-9 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert

After breakfast, we start our hike toward Lava Tower (4,600m) and down to Barranco Valley after having lunch. We decided to have lunch at the lava tower because of acclimatization. This is going to give you a chance to experience how you will be feeling at the base camp before we summit.

Day 5: Barranco Valley to Karanga Camp

Elevation: 12,795ft to 13,123ft | Distance: 5 km | Hiking Time: 4-5 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert

We arrive right below the Heim Glacier after a strenuous ascent up the eastern side, where we might be treated to some breath-taking views of Kilimanjaro. Following a steep descent into the alpine desert of the Karanga Valley, we have a strong ascent to Karanga Camp. This is separated from the southeast slopes of Kibo by the Great Barranco Wall.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Elevation: 13,123ft to 15,331ft | Distance: 4 km | Hiking Time: 4-5 hours | Habitat: Alpine Desert

Before midnight, in the shadows, get up. A moderate, steady pace will bring us to Stella Point, which is the rim of the main crater, at a height of 5,735m. We start out with a hard climb through loose volcanic scree that has some well-graded zigzags. We'll take a little break there to watch the sunrise over Mawenzi.

Day 7: Summit Day - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Elevation: 15,331ft to 19,341ft (and down to 10,170ft) | Distance: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent | Hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent | Habitat: Arctic

Very early in the morning (around midnight), we begin our push to the summit. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. Near Stella Point (18,900 ft), you will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see coming over Mawenzi Peak. Finally, we arrive at Uhuru Peak—the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. From the summit, we now make our descent to Mweka Camp.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Arusha/Moshi

Successful climbers will collect their summit certificates at Mweka gate after a stroll through the rainforest. We drop off our clients to their hotel in Arusha or Moshi.
